Q: Can endometriosis be diagnosed without surgery?
A: Yes. While laparoscopy was historically the only way to confirm endometriosis, the EndoSure test now allows for a non-invasive diagnosis. It uses advanced technology to detect the specific electrical "fingerprint" that endometriosis tissue creates in the abdominal muscles, with studies showing over 95% accuracy compared to surgical findings.
Q: How does the EndoSure test work?
A: EndoSure works similarly to an ECG for the heart. It uses external sensors placed on the abdomen to measure "Electro-ViscoGraphy" (EVG) signals. Since endometriosis tissue releases inflammatory markers (prostaglandins) that disrupt normal muscle motility in the gut, the test can detect these specific disruptions to confirm the disease.
Q: Is the EndoSure test painful?
A: No, the EndoSure test is completely painless and non-invasive. It involves placing sticky electrode pads on your stomach and drinking water. There are no needles, no incisions, and no internal examinations required during the test.
Q: How do I prepare for an EndoSure test?
A: Generally, you will be asked to fast (no food) for 4 to 8 hours before your appointment to ensure your stomach is empty. You should also drink water only during this time. Specific instructions regarding medications will be provided by The Links Clinic prior to your appointment.
Q: Does a negative EndoSure test mean I don't have endometriosis?
A: The EndoSure test is highly sensitive. In clinical trials, it demonstrated a very high success rate in identifying patients without the disease (high specificity). If your test is negative, it strongly suggests your pelvic pain may be caused by a different condition, allowing us to pivot your treatment plan immediately without unnecessary surgery.
Q: Is EndoSure covered by Alberta Health Care?
A: Not yet but most private insurances cover it
Q: Are you accepting new patients?
